Award amounts generally range from $8,000.00 to $20,000.00 over four years.

SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Be of Hispanic Heritage
  • Rank in the top 25% of their high school graduating class
  • Be a high school senior graduating from a high school in Hidalgo, Cameron or Starr counties in South Texas.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident with a permanent resident card or an non-expired passport stamped I-551
  • Have plans to enroll full-time in a degree seeking program at a four year U.S. accredited institution in the United States or Puerto Rico in their next upcoming academic year

Important Notice:

  • Do not submit your application to the VAMOS scholarship committee unless it is completed and includes all required information. Applications submitted after April 1st, 2008 (VAMOS scholarship) will not be accepted.  No extensions will be given.
  • Applications for the HSF/VAMOS scholarship will not be accepted after March 15, 2008
  • DO NOT fax or e-mail applications, nor enclose materials not requested.
  • Print your full name and social security number on each document you submit.
  • Only completed packets will be considered. Scholarship will notify selected recipients only.

Enclose all the following items in your application package. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Remove all staples from application materials.

Student Checklist

  • Signed and completed application.
  • Essay with your name and social security number.
  • Transcripts signed or approved by a counselor or authorized school official.  The transcript should display GPA, class rank, class size, and relevant test scores: SAT, ACT, and THEA.
  • Two evaluation forms (enclosed in application).
  • Resume (please follow sample format provided).           
  • Copy of Permanent Resident Card (if applicable).
  • Copy of 2007 income tax return and/or FAFSA Student Aid Report.
  • College Financial Aid Award letter
